Asia Pacific Superyacht Conference Put Sustainability in Spotlight ( 2012/05/28 )
| The 4th Asia Pacific Superyacht Conference, a major event in the superyacht industry in Asia, was held in Singapore from 25th April to 26th April, 2012. The conference brought the people of the industry from over 30 countries together to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the superyacht industry in Asia Pacific through presentations, interactive panels, debates, and case studies. The conference also explored the opportunities to promote the region as an exciting and cruising destination and service hub for superyachts. As one of the reputable speakers, Captain Tork Buckley, who was an experienced professional captain and journalist, currently founder and senior consultant at superyacht technical consultancy Big Blue Consulting, pointed out, some of the key issues marina development must address include water quality, and preservation of ecology and heritage. He also suggested that should also be looked at the economic and social impact on the local community arising from the marina. Captain Buckley used The Baroque on Lamma (BoL) as the case study to demonstrate how marina projects take the ecological and cultural heritage preservation into consideration. He added that superyacht owners would prefer berthing their yachts in a pleasant and unspoiled natural environment. Captain Buckley trusted that sustainability would be the trend for the future marina development, and a comprehensive setting providing well-rounded facilities, would set new standards in Asian marinas.
