The Future of Mo Tat School ( 2011/05/16 )
During a hike in Southern Lamma Island, Mo Tat School was found abandoned. Few years ago, her name “Mo Tat School” could still be seen. Sadly, today, upper part of the building is engulfed under the mantle of tree. This school, which used to serve the locals, cries as if she has been forgotten by the society.
Right in front of Mo Tat School, a well stands. This well leads people to imagine how the school life was in the past. Did the students have to get water from the well everyday? Was this well and the open space nearby used to be a playground for the students? How this abandoned school had functioned and nurtured the children in the past? And how would people feel if they had to attend class in this school now? Unfortunately, no one cares to think about these now.
According to research, Mo Tat School, which had served as a private village school for the locals, was built in 1932. However, with the improvement in transportation, the locals went to school on Hong Kong Island. Mo Tat School was, therefore, abandoned.
No matter what, Mo Tat School witnessed the changes in Lamma Island. She keeps waiting, waiting for an opportunity for her to tell the world how she had contributed to this island. We hope to cooperate with local groups and government to restore and revive Mo Tat School and their historical buildings as milestones in the history of Lamma. If we could show the historic scene of classes at the school, it would be very meaningful to Lamma and to Hong Kong.
We are more than happy to communicate with different groups and introduce our project. We shall keep you updated on our latest news in Blog of Baroque. For enquiry, please e-mail to enquiry@bol-hk.com. Yours Sincerely, The Baroque on Lamma
