FAQ

CAR PARKING

Over 100 private and public parking spaces are proposed for private cars, buses, and lorries. However, all powered vehicles are not permitted on Lamma so far (except Village Vehicles (VVs), emergency vehicles and Lamma Power Station vehicles). Please explain

One cannot deny VVs are in fact small “car” running on diesel noisy and polluting. Their existence demonstrate there are needs for some form of mechanical transport when the distance and/or the load exceed human capability – that is why wheels were invented in the first place! Lamma, Cheung Chau and Ping Chau need their VVs. Hence it is not fair or reasonable to insist that the proposed development at Tung O should go without any means of mechanical transport at all. It will be a matter of developing a transport strategy that serves the community and the visitors without pollution or excessive noise. We are in the process of reviewing various options including combination of bicycles, shuttle bus, on-demand passenger vehicles and etc. and communal in lieu of private “car” ownership. There will also be control on the speed as well as the type and size of the vehicles; and the roads will be designed for safe passage of pedestrians.
