FAQ

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Q: Whether the project will generate employment opportunities for local residents during construction and during operation stage?

A: During Construction Stage, some 1,000 to 2,000 jobs will be created covering skilled, semi-skilled and non-skilled sectors, and the workforce will be drawn from Lamma Island and Hong Kong as a whole. Many simple works, such as cleaning, helpers/labour, watchmen, canteen staff etc are suitable for unskilled local people. Skilled or Semi-skilled residents will be suitable for clerical, logistic, supervisory, and managerial tasks with contractors’ and consultants’ site offices. In addition the workforce on site would need to be transported and fed, hence an expansion in the ferry services and catering services is anticipated, which will offer additional indirect employment opportunities.

During Operation Stage, up to 2,000 permanent jobs will be created and the workforce is likely to be drawn from all over Hong Kong, and some from aboard. In any case, apart from the non-skilled posts, the development offers diverse employment opportunities including hospitality, arts and crafts, food and beverage, managerial, education, ecology, conservation, sales and promotion, marine services, logistics etc which are well suit many Lamma residents with relevant expertise/experience.
