Sham Wan after Palm Stearin Leakage   ( 2017/08/10 )

The leakage of palm stearin, caused by the crash between two vessels near the Pearl River estuary on last Thursday, has flown into Hong Kong’s waters and covered beaches including Lamma Island. Hong Kong environmental groups and enthusiastic public have started working on beach clean-ups on Lamma Island these days.

We had a field visit to Sham Wan today and the staff from Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department on site mentioned that this beach has been under cleaning and since it has been in Green Turtle breeding period,  general public couldn’t enter Sham Wan for clean-up without permission. We are actively contacting related government departments in hoping for assisting cleaning up the Sham Wan beach without making any impact on green turtle breeding.

If you are interested in beach clean-up held by Eco-education and Resources Centre and Green Power, please kindly visit their Facebook page: Eco-Education and Resources Centre (ERC)
