Looking back, we submitted the application to Development Opportunities Office in March 2010 and have collected opinions and advices from various sectors. The scheme had been continuously adjusted and refined and has already submitted to the Town Planning Board in mid-April 2011 for the application for amendment of plan under Section 12A, which is an important step for this innovation and environmental friendly project. Let us first introduce you the environmental concept of The Baroque on Lamma to give everyone some understanding of our green initiatives. The Baroque on Lamma is a project which integrates the ideas of sustainable development and green community through the most advanced eco-architectural technology and planning concept. We hope The Baroque on Lamma would become a new destination in Hong Kong, in which environmental protection is intentionally highlighted.

 

To create a green community is one of the focuses of our project. To fulfill corporate citizenship, we have given thorough consideration of the local condition at the early planning stage. We have conducted a well-rounded assessment of the local ecological value and suggested a win-win scheme which brings the least impact to the environment. We not only carry out a series of environmental impact assessment (see the diagram below) required by the Government, but also undertake “Social Impact Assessment” to take the initiative in communicating with the stakeholders, including the local people, the green groups as well as the academics, to collect precious opinions from all perspectives.

The Baroque on Lamma, as a green and sustainable project, strives to use renewable energy, including wind energy, wave energy and solar energy within the development. We have already talked to different experts from various professions who can help study the viability of the new technologies. Furthermore, we will also undertake a “Carbon Audit Investigation Report” to ensure that our scheme is beneficial to the natural environment.

 

"Green Marina" is one of the key elements as well as a focus of the Baroque on Lamma. In recent years, sailing activities have become more environmentally friendly, with the introduction of green yachts and eco-friendly boats that has also given rise to technologies for application on sailboats and yachts, all of these will serve as a major trend for the future. Take one eco-friendly sailboat that set sail in March 2010 for example, in addition to solar power and wind power, it also applies innovative hydrogen fuel cells which provide energy supply to the system. Furthermore, The Baroque on Lamma will actively work with the industry to investigate potential technologies for environmental protection, for instance, reducing the pollution brought forth by sailing activities by applying water treatment systems, waste treatment systems and renewable clean energy. It is the vision of the Baroque on Lamma to create a world class marina complete with the necessary facilities meeting the Blue Flag Eco-Label, or its equivalent.

 

In order to enforce its environmental policies, the Baroque on Lamma attaches great importance to the preliminary planning work. Taking environmental protection as its project main consideration, The Baroque on Lamma employs a team of professional consultants to conduct a series of marine surveys in order to minimize the impact on the marine ecology. At the same time, it actively investigates and develops environmental technologies and adopts environmental protection measures during construction so as to maintain water quality in the surrounding area and prevent pollution as much as possible, setting a benchmark for its peers, and pave the way for green energy source and the goal of a “green marina”.

 

In addition, the Baroque on Lamma will make effective use of the advantages of breakwaters. Besides introducing various types of renewable energy, research is also being conducted on using breakwaters as a means to preserve marine ecology, to provide a breeding ground for corals and other marine life, in an effort to assist the growth of the marine ecosystem.
